Volkswagen Prepping T Sport Crossover SUV For South American Markets

Volkswagen is all set to bring their own Crossover SUV for the South American markets. Based on the current generation VW Polo, the new SUV will go by the name T Sport. Reportedly, it will be placed below the T Cross SUV in the Volkswagen product portfolio. However, it seems that T Sport may not make it to the Indian market anytime soon.

Although, there are reports suggesting that the Indian arm of the German carmaker is planning to introduce Crossover SUVs based on the same platform in the country instead of Sedans and Hatchbacks. And this 2.0 strategy for India will include a similar offering from Skoda as well. Having said that, it is too soon to talk about the launch of the T Sport in India. Reportedly, Volkswagen is not ready to launch the T Sport in India, also, they’re planning to launch updated versions of their current portfolio. Right now, we can assume that 2020 or 2021 is the year for the T Sport launch. In the meanwhile, VW is already making way for the T Cross launched in India next year.

In the South American market, the T Sport is slated to release in 2020. The product will be pitched as a premium offering at an affordable price.

The new T Sport SUV will make use of VW’s all-new MQB A0 platform. The SUV will be put into production in VW’s factory in Brazil. The company has also the T Sport nameplate registered with the INPI (Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property). The T Sport will be a rough and tough SUV and will carry parts from the current gen. Volkswagen Polo. VW is already treading in the crossover market due to its Polo Cross.

If launched in India, the Volkswagen T Sport will lock horns with the Honda Jazz, Skoda Fabia. Globally, the T Sport will get its engine from the T Cross. And if that happens then it is safe to assume that a bi-Fuel Engine is in the works too. For Brazil, A bi-fuel engine is a setup that can run on both –  petrol and ethanol. Bi-fuel engines are a big thing in Brazil.

As mentioned earlier, VW plans to launch the T Cross early next year, in India. Let’s see as to when the T Sport may make its way to India.
