Hyundai has been working on a new compact SUV is something that we have known for a while now. Codenamed as QXi, the model was expected to be called the Hyundai Styx upon unveiling. A few months ago, spy images of the QXi test-mule were shared on the web during public road tests across the globe. The company later revealed that the model would be unveiled in the production form at the 2019 New York Auto Show. What came as a surprise later though was the fact that Hyundai planned to unveil the new sub-4 meter compact SUV in India simultaneously.
Ahead of the unveiling, Hyundai shared a teaser image revealing the name of the compact SUV, which would be known as the Venue. Hyundai described the name ‘Venue’ saying “it references a place where people want to be seen, or in this case, inside the vehicle, The Venue symbolizes a third space which is trendy, unique, stylish and perfect for Hyundai’s newest connected SUV.” The company also referred to the venue as a ‘Connected SUV‘ hinting at the possibility of a number of connectivity technologies. Another teaser video shared by the brand revealed a few crucial details of the Venue such as the Creta inspired styling, Hyundai’s signature Cascading Grille design and diamond cut alloy wheels.
In the following week, Hyundai India revealed that the Venue would be the first model from the brand to feature the ‘BlueLink’ connectivity technology. The Hyundai BlueLink is Hyundai’s global technology which will be introduced in the Indian market with 33 features out of which 10 would be India specific features for most practical and holistic connectivity with Safety, Convenience and various Vehicle Management Relationship Services.
Under the BlueLink technology, Hyundai will offer the following features:
- Safety: Auto Crash Notification, SOS/Emergency Assistance, Road Side Assistance, Panic Notification.
- Security: Stolen Vehicle Tracking, Stolen Vehicle Notification, Stolen Vehicle Immobilization.
- Remote: Remote Engine Start/Stop, Remote Climate Control, Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Remote Horn Honk & Light, Remote Vehicle Status, Find My Car, Share My Car.
- Vehicle Relationship Management (VRM): Auto DTC Check, Manual DTC Check, Monthly Health Report, Maintenance Alert, Driving Information / Behavior.
- Location Based Services (LBS): Push Map to the car from App, Push Maps by Call Center, Live POI Search, Live Traffic Information, Share The Destination, Live Car Tracking, Destination Set in Link with Schedule, Location Sharing.
- Alert Services: Geo-fence Alert, Speed Alert, Time Fencing Alert, Valet Alert, Idle Alert.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): Voice Recognition – Indian English.
Hyundai Venue Spy Images
About 3 weeks prior to the unveiling, images of a semi-camouflaged test-mule of the Hyundai Venue surfaced on the web, revealing a number of details including the exterior as well as the interior of the upcoming compact SUV. As seen in the spy images, the Hyundai Venue will come equipped with separate housing for the DRL, flanked by chrome finished Cascading design grille. Sitting below the LED DRL setup is the headlamp cluster which is a projector unit. Also on offer are faux skid plates and fog lamps. On either side, the model receives a diamond cut, dual tone alloy wheels while the rear is fitted with LED tail lights. Another highlight is the Turbo badging, indicating the turbocharger present in the engine.
A single spy image of the interior reveals blacked out interiors with a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system sitting snug between the HVAC vents. The leather-wrapped steering wheel comes equipped with steering mounted controls while the instrument console will feature two pods for the speedometer and tachometer, divided by a coloured MID. Hyundai also shared a few images revealing the sketches of the upcoming Venue, while also declaring that the model would be unveiled on April 17, 2019.
Hyundai Venue Unveiled
On April 17, 2019, Hyundai unveiled the Venue in India on a cruise ship from Mumbai to Goa as the model was simultaneously unveiled at the New York Auto Show. Dimension wise, the Hyundai Venue measures 3995mm in length, 1770mm in width and 1590 mm in height while the wheelbase is rated at 2,500mm. Engine options on the Hyundai Venue will include a new 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine, a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.4-litre diesel engine. The 1.0-litre, the turbocharged petrol engine will be capable of producing 120 hp and 171 Nm of torque. This engine can be had with a six-speed manual transmission or a segment first seven-speed Dual Clutch automatic transmission. The 1.2-litre petrol engine will produce 82 hp and 114 Nm of torque and will come paired to a five-speed manual transmission as standard. The 1.4-litre, the turbocharged diesel engine will be tuned to produce 89 hp and 220 Nm of torque. This engine will be available exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Hyundai Venue Features:
In the features department, the 2019 Hyundai Venue will come equipped with a front dark chrome grille, LED tail lamps, projector headlamps with LED DRL, projector fog lamps, cornering lamps and a shark fin antenna. Inside, the model will receive an electric sunroof, cruise control, air purifier, wireless charger, voice recognition, Arkamys music system, rear AC vents, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a cooled glove box. Safety features will include 6 airbags, speed sensing auto door lock, ESC/ESP and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill Assist Control (HAC), Brake Assist System (BAS), Isofix mounts. The Hyundai Venue will receive the BlueLink connectivity feature that includes remote start, door/climate/horn/ light control, real-time traffic information, POI Send2Car (destination transfer), a destination set in link with schedule, vehicle theft notification/track / immobilize, share my car (App sharing).
Hyundai India has revealed that the Venue will be launched in India on May 21, 2019. In the country, the Venue will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and the Ford EcoSport. Expect the Hyundai Venue to arrive with a price tag in the range of INR 8-12 lakh (ex-showroom).
